What is Chiropractic

Study Reveals Medications kill 100,000 per year in the United State.

Properly prescribed medications may kill more than 100,000 people a year, taking more lives than diabetes or pneumonia, according to an analysis released in The Journal of the American Medical Association on April 15, 1998.

The study estimates that 76,000 to 137,000 people died in 1994 from such treatments. That would make so-called adverse drug reactions between the sixth and fourth leading cause of death in United States. Moreover, of the 33 million hospitalized patients in 1994, some 2.2 million had a nonfatal reaction serious enough to require medical attention. It’s a small percentage but is it a risk you want to take when chiropractic care is a drug free treatment?

Why would you treat the symptoms of a problem rather than the cause of the problem?

"The nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body. “ (Gray’s Anatomy, 29th Ed., page 4.) Chiropractic treats the cause of many illnesses and ailments by aligning the spine, thereby relieving the cause of nerve irritation and allowing your body and nervous system to heal themselves.

Medical doctors often use a treatment form called palliative which means “serving to  relieve without out curing”. As an example, medical doctors may tell you that you have a
”common or vascular or cluster or migrant headache” and prescribe aspirin medication to relieve the pain but not the cause of the pain – Which makes for a recurring problem.

Just What is a Subluxation ?

Chiropractic doctors specialize in the care of the spine, and particularly focus on the correct function of the bones or vertebrae of the spine that are stacked up from the pelvis all the way up through your neck. Spongy discs between any two adjacent vertebrae join those two together while allowing them to bend and twist slightly. Muscles and tendons that attach to the vertebrae also help tie each joint together and control movement. Together each verebrae, its disc, tendons, and muscles form a unit that moves and functions in relation to the next vertebral unit next to it. When each one functions normally, the spinal cord that runs down the middle of the spine and each pair of nerve bundles that leave the spinal cord at each vertebra can also function normally. The spinal cord and these nerves conduct messages from the brain to and from most all parts of the body and so can affect virtually any aspects of health. Any one of the vertebral unit can malfunction and either move too much or too little in relation to the adjacent units. Muscles taut from overuse or injury can pull too hard or fail to pull normally. Constant bad posture of just old age can slowly change the function of the unit. Discs shrink with age or bone spurs can grow limiting motion. These sorts of things change the function of the units of the spine and we call these subluxations. They in turn can affect the transmission of nerve impulses and that can cause problems not only there in the back, but anywhere in the body. We reduce these subluxations to restore normal function to the spine. That allows the nervous system to function normally again. As such we are not focused so much on any one disease, but on the total health of the body and the prevention of disease.
